Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park
Idaho is home to one of the tallest sand dunes in North America. Standing at 470 feet from the bottom Bruneau is a great place to hike, climb, and sandboard down the slopes. Hiding just behind the dunes is a small lake that is a great place to fish for bluegill and bass. If you are wanting to stay in the park later or even overnight check out the observatory and see the beautiful stars that southern Idaho has to offer.
Cervidae Peak
Looking for a hike that will challenge you and reward you with a great view? Check out the Cervidae Peak trail located off Arrow Rock road out by Lucky Peak Reservoir. The hike is less than five miles round trip, but the real challenge comes into play with the steep elevation changes along the trail. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a great view of Lucky Peak, the Foothills, and the Boise River.
Kuna Caves
If you are looking for a cool place to explore with your friends and don’t mind spending some time underground, come explore Kuna Caves. This underground lava tube sits 50 feet in the ground and stretches about 1,000 feet from the cave’s entrance. The cave is a great place to check out over the summer since it stays so much cooler during the day. The cave can be quite dark once you get farther into it so having a flashlight or a headlamp is always a good idea.
Trail Creek Hot Springs
If you are wanting a nice place in Idaho to enjoy some warm water and relaxation try Trail Creek Hot Springs. Tucked away in Valley County, located a half mile from the road. You will find the spring and its several soaking pools. Each of the pools is a different temperature making it easy to find the right one for you. Bring some snacks, your towel, swimsuit and your water shoes to help you get in and out of the slippery pools and enjoy the warm water.
Bogus Basin
The treasure valley is fortunate to be surrounded by many mountains that offer a wide variety of things to do. A quick one to get to with lots of things to do is Bogus Basin. Over the summer they host live music and yoga sessions that are free to attend. They also have day passes that allow you access to all of the great biking trails and scenic routes they have to offer. Even if you are not a biker they still have plenty of other things to check out like their Mineshaft challenge course and their glade runner mountain coaster! This can be a great way to spend the day outdoors with your friends in the fresh mountain air.
Idaho weather can be hot and unpredictable over the summer. While you are exploring the outdoors with your friends and family don’t forget your water and sunscreen. Try to dress for the adventure you plan for with sturdy shoes and clothes that are comfortable and make sense for the environment you plan to be in.
